Sunday Social Ride – Kyneton – 30th April 2017

19 riders arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were mild with little wind and no threat of rain. The wind did increase before the ride finished. It was good to see Bern back riding with the club again after a break since 2015 as well as Sean who had not ridden for some months.

10 riders rode the longer ride and the remaining 9 rode the medium ride. One rider on the medium ride with time commitments rode a modified version of the ride and the remainder the published route. There was a mutiny on the longer ride with all riders covering a shortened version of the ride. There were tales of cold, strong winds towards the finish of the ride. Toughen up guys.

Once back at the cafe it was all riders together having a good laugh and enjoying refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 27th April 2017

6 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were very cold with a strong southerly wind blowing. Winter has certainly arrived with a bang. Away with the summer gear and out with the winter thermals.  We rode one of our regular 52km routes out to Newham via Bryces Lane, then on to Chases Lane and back along Batters Lane. The ride was great early with the tail wind however once we reached Batters Lane the wind became a very strong head wind all the way back to Woodend. We were also met at the cafe by Roscoe who arrived after we started our ride.

Once everybody was back at the cafe it was the usual jovial company and after refreshments it was homeward bound.

25 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were grey skies with some low cloud. Once the ride progressed the sun began to shine through and the last portions of the ride were in excellent sunny conditions with only a light breeze.

11 riders rode the longer ride, 8 the medium ride and the remaining 6 rode a modified version of the medium ride by not climbing Mt Macedon Road. Also there were 3 riders who have been attending the Femmes Cycling Skills Saturday rides with us for the first time. They all rode the modified version of the medium ride for a distance of 37km. They were very happy after the ride especially as they had never ridden that far before.

Once back at the cafe all riders were together at the same time for refreshments. Everyone  enjoyed the company before heading home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 20th April 2017

10 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride.  Conditions were overcast with a north wind blowing. We rode one of our normal 52km routes out to Newham via Bryces Lane, then Chases Lane and back to gain the benefit of a tail wind back to Woodend.

Unfortunately 2 riders had a coming together as we rode around the back of Hanging Rock with one rider ending up in the ditch. After roadside repairs to the bike including straightening the handlebars and clearing both wheels from rubbing on the brake pads he continued on the ride. The other rider involved had the misfortune later in the ride of the rear derailleur breaking when shifting gears and required a lift back to Woodend. When everybody arrived back at Woodend discussions were all ready well in hand regarding  repairs to both bikes.

Even allowing for the above mishap the members enjoyed the ride and had a good chat before heading home.

18 riders arrived in Gisborne for this mornings ride. Conditions were overcast with only minimal breeze. We rode modified routes for today’s ride due to dangerous conditions with tourists on Mt Macedon Road. We rode the Baringo Loop first then went to Gisborne and completed the remainder of the ride to the south of the town away from the mount.

10 riders rode the longer ride and the remaining 8 the medium ride with one rider on the longer ride dropping back to the medium ride. This left both groups at 9 riders each. Ride distances were approx 42km and 60km.  Riders from the medium ride were all at the cafe in Gisborne when the longer ride group returned. A good time was had by all before members proceeded back to their cars for the journey home.

Good Friday Ride – Woodend – 14th April 2017

14 riders arrived in Woodend for this mornings ride. Conditions were sunny with a light breeze blowing. We rode a 67km loop out to Malmsbury and back. Four of the ladies who rode with us this morning had never ridden that distance before. They all managed the ride and seemed to enjoy the experience.

The ride had a coffee stop at Moto Bean in Malmsbury before the return ride and a further stop back in Woodend at the end of the ride for some of the riders. The ride back to Woodend also meant we were riding into a head wind which made the return more difficult than the first half of the ride. Everyone had a good ride even those who had never ridden that far before and they will gain from learning to ride that distance.

All riders enjoyed a good day.

Sunday Social Ride – Kyneton – 9th April 2017

2 riders (Lindsay and Myself) braved the conditions for this mornings ride. The cold morning definitely meant long Knicks, gloves, booties and rain jackets. 1 other rider turned up (Roscoe) and after a short time decided not to ride. We rode the medium ride and as we started there was some light rain for a short distance. As we rode along Cobb & Co Road the rain stopped and for the remainder of the ride conditions were cold and windy with drying roads.  The sun began to shine  as we rode along Chases Lane and we had brief patches for the remainder of the ride.

As Lindsay had another commitment we did not go to the cafe instead we went straight home.

Ride News – 7 Peaks Challenge Climbs

Congratulations to Brett on successfully climbing Mt Baw Baw during the week to complete the 7 climbs in the challenge. Mt Baw Baw is the shortest of the climbs but also the steepest. Similar in length to the South side of Mt Macedon but steeper.

We now have 3 club members having finished all 7 climbs this year. Mark H unfortunately became sick and was unable to ride his final climb of Mt Baw Baw before the cut off time.

Perhaps later this year after the winter we will have more members attempting the challenge.
