Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 31st August 2017

7 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were cool with good sunshine and a strong South West wind blowing. Good to see Pene back riding again.

We rode one of our usual 52km routes via Bryces Lane to Newham, Chases Lane and back via Batters Lane. The ride until we reached Batters Lane was mostly with a tail wind but unfortunately when we turned to come back to Woodend we were then riding into a head wind for the journey back. The ride progressed at a good pace and all riders enjoyed the ride.

Once back in the cafe it was good to be able to sit outside in the sun and enjoy the company and chatter. After refreshments it was time to head  home.

Sunday Social Ride – Woodend – 27th August 2017

16 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were sunny with a strong cold south wind blowing.

11 riders rode the longer ride and the remaining 5 the medium ride. As the ride progressed the weather conditions worsened with a squall including hail, sleet and a light dusting of snow near the Newham area. 10 minutes later the sun was shining again and stayed that way for a large portion of the remainder of the ride. Unfortunately this did not last and with about 10km to go another squall of sleet arrived.  At this time we were riding straight into the weather and it was not nice.

We also had the misfortune of a rider having a fall requiring an ambulance to be called. Members stayed with the rider until the ambulance arrived.

Once back at the cafe it was nice to get inside into the warmth and have something hot to drink. Following refreshments we all headed for home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 24th August 2017

3 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool with a Southerly wind blowing. We rode a 52km loop along one of our regular rides but varied the route by going up Mt Macedon Road to Straws Lane and then rejoining our normal ride in Bryces Lane. Riding conditions were good with slight damp roads on Mt Macedon Road due to the trees and little sunlight to dry out the roads. Once we turned to ride back to Woodend we unfortunately had a head wind for the return journey.

Once back at Woodend it was into the warmth of the cafe for refreshments and a chat before heading home.

All riders were together at the cafe after the ride and enjoyed the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Social Ride – Wodend – 17th August 2017

Only 1 person was silly enough to turn up for a ride this morning. Conditions were very ordinary with heavy rain and a strong wind blowing. As I had some jobs to do in Woodend I attended to them first. By the time I was ready to ride the weather had improved remarkably with the sun beginning to shine and drying roads. I rode a36km loop up Mt Macedon Road, Straws Ln, then to Carlshrue and back via Cheveley Rd. The entire ride was completed with the sun shining and on dry roads.

I then retired to the cafe for some warming refreshments before heading home.  Once home it was not long before the rain began again. Just shows that mugs luck sometimes works.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 10th August 2017

3 riders arrived in Woodend this morning to battle today’s conditions. The weather was warmer than of late with a very strong North wind blowing. We rode a 40km modified version of our normal route by not riding down Chases Lane. The wind was very strong but fortunately when we rode into the wind we were riding mainly downhill. Once we started back at Carlshrue we had the benefit of the tail wind all the way back to Woodend.

Once back at the cafe it was warm enough to be able to sit outside even with the wind. After refreshments we headed home.

Sunday Social Ride – Woodend – 6th August 2017

3 members (demented souls) arrived this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were cold and windy when we started but no rain at Woodend. We were joined on the ride by Tim. He had ridden from home and was a few minutes late as he was slowed by the head wind.  The 4 of us then rode a 41km modified version of the long ride due to riding into some heavy rain from Bryces Lane onward plus some light hail near Chases Lane. The biggest problem during the ride was not the rain but the standing water and puddles on the road. Needless to say we all got wet from the water splashing up as we rode.

Once back in the cafe it was good to get out of the wind, rain and into the warmth followed by something to drink and eat. Once refreshed we all departed homeward where everyone said they were headed for hot showers plus drying off cycling gear.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 3rd August 2017

5 riders arrived in Woodend this morning to tackle today’s conditions. The weather was cold with no frost in Woodend. We also had John M. back from holidaying in warmer climates and Luke from riding the Alps in Europe.

We rode one of our normal loops out to Newham via Bryces Lane then Chases Lane to Batters Lane and back to Woodend. We encountered some light drizzle as we neared Kyneton. Fortunately we rode out of the rain as we returned to Woodend.

I managed to leave my gloves behind but was able to borrow a pair. We also had glove and shoe covers swapping  for warmth for another rider.

We were back enjoying the warmth of the cafe by the time the rain started. After having our refreshments we then all departed for home.
