Grand Final Public Holiday Ride – Woodend – 29th September 2017

14 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. The weather  was cool and  cloudy  with a strong North Westerly Wind. We were joined by 2 more riders as we rode through  Kyneton making 16 riding for the day.

Riding conditions were difficult heading toward Malmsbury as we were going into the head wind but fortunately the ride was mainly downhill making the ride a little easier.

Everybody then enjoyed a break plus refreshments in the warmth of the cafe out of the wind, before heading back into the elements for the return ride to Woodend. The ride back meant a tail wind and a good speed was maintained. Most riders then enjoyed a second cafe stop in Woodend before heading home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 28th September 2017

5 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were cool and windy but the threat of rain was missing. Good to see Luke riding again now that the weather is warming up. We rode a 42km modified loop by eliminating riding down Chases Lane and instead returned via Russells Rd, Crowes Ln. Fortunately most of the head wind part of the ride was mainly downhill and not a big hindrance. The ride speed was fairly fast as we all spent the time attempting to keep up with Luke.

Once back at the cafe it was good to sit out in the sunshine apart from when clouds came over and enjoy the chat and refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Social Ride – Kyneton – 24th September 2017

11 riders arrived in Kyneton to tackle today’s conditions. Totally different from the warmth of yesterday. The weather was cool with a very strong north west wind blowing. All riders opted to ride the medium ride and I think for the first time the ladies of the club out numbered the men for today’s ride. Don’t tell me that all the guys were watching the football and were not able to make the ride. ( Softies)

4 riders continued down Metcalfe Hill to add some distance to the ride and the remainder waited for them to climb back up the hill.

Once we started back from the top of the hill we enjoyed the tail wind back, except for the section in Malmsbury East Road which was directly into the wind. As we got back to the velodrome it began to rain for a few minuted and then stopped as we put our bikes away.

We all then adjourned to the cafe for some warmth and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 21st September 2017

4 riders arrived in Woodend this morning to tackle the conditions. The weather was a little cool with a strong north wind blowing. Also good to see Bruno back riding with us again. We rode a 42km version of one of our usual routes. Due to the strong wind we bypassed going into Chases Lane and rode back to Woodend along Cheveley Road. Fortunately once we rode onto 3 Chain Road we either had a cross tail wind or a direct tail wind for the remainder of the ride back to Woodend.

Once out of the head wind the speed of the ride increased and a good average was maintained over the ride. By the time the ride had finished the weather had warmed nicely.

Back at the cafe it was good to sit out in the sun having refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Social Ride – Woodend – 17th September 2017

24 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were perhaps the best for some time with the sun shining and a fairly light breeze. The good weather brought out riders who have not been riding lately. It was good to see them riding again.

4 riders rode the longer ride, 17 the medium ride and the remaining 3 the shorter ride. One of the members on the longer ride joined the ride just after the start. He was on a mission to be back home early so the ride was at a fast pace. The other members of the ride hanging on to keep up.

A rider on the medium ride enjoyed the ride so much that immediately after the ride finished he started riding the circuit for a second time. With the tail wind back to Woodend all rides were at a brisk speed. Rider numbers on the medium ride were higher than normal as some of the riders that would normally ride the longer ride were returning after being sick or had other time commitments.

The remainder of the riders were all together at the cafe and it was good to be able to  enjoy the company outside in the sunshine. After completing our refreshments it was time to head homeward.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 14th September 2017

2 riders rode from Woodend this morning (Donna and I).  Conditions were cold with a strong west wind blowing . We rode a 41km loop up the mount to Straws Lane, Newham, Carlshrue and back via Russells Road. Donna also said I had to mention that I beat her up the climb to Straws Lane, however she stopped on the way up to remove her rain jacket, so I suspect that was the only reason.

We had a good ride on mainly dry roads apart from the areas under trees on Mt Macedon Road. The difficult parts of the ride were along 3 Chain Road and Russells Road which were straight into the wind. Once with the tail wind it was good riding with wind assistance

Once back at the cafe it was good to get into the warmth and have a refreshing hot drink before heading home.

7 riders rode the longer ride and the remaining 11 rode the medium ride.  Some riders on the medium ride  rode a modified version by eliminating part of the climb up Waterfalls Road.

Riders on the longer ride also modified the ride by eliminating the loop into Gisborne and arrived back at the cafe at the same time as the medium ride. Everyone then enjoyed the company and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 7th September 2017

1 member (Me) turned up this morning to ride. Weather conditions were typical of late , cold wet & windy. 2 members had been out for a ride, as they arrived at the cafe following their ride before I started.

I rode a 42km modified version of our usual loop via Bryces Lane, Newham, Carlshrue and back along Russells Road. As I descended Bryces Lane the rain stopped, the roads became dry and the sun shone through. The remainder of the ride was in good weather conditions especially once I turned to head back to Woodend and had a tail wind for the finish of the ride.

Once back at the cafe it was good to get into the warmth and relax before heading home.

Sunday Social Ride – Kyneton – 3rd September 2017

14 members assembled in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were cold with heavy misty rain falling. As we were about to commence riding the rain became even heavier with a little hail. This prompted 3 members to decide not to ride and head for the cafe. The remaining 11 riders then started on their merry way.

5 riders rode the longer ride, 2 rode modified versions of the medium ride and the remaining 4 rode the shorter ride. As we rode over the freeway out of Kyneton the rain ceased and apart from a light shower the rest of the ride was on dry roads with a fair amount of sunshine. Everyone also enjoyed the tail wind back to Kyneton.

Special mention must be made of one member who was riding in a coat more suitable for the snow fields. Good work Rob. However as he said later at least he was dry and warm. All members who rode were together back at the cafe after the ride an enjoyed the warmth and company before heading home.
