Sunday Social Ride – Gisborne – 25th February 2018

21 misguided members turned up this morning for today’s ride with one other joining the ride after missing the start time. Weather conditions were cold with misty rain and a very strong southerly wind blowing.  Arm warmers and winter jackets were the clothing for the ride. Certainly not what you would expect in February.

11 riders rode the long ride and the remaining 11 the medium ride. All rides had modifications due to the strong winds. Everyone rode to Baringo via Cheniston for protection from the wind. 2 riders on the medium ride rode part of Waterfalls Road and rejoined up with the group in Baringo.

Once back at the cafe it was warm drinks for all and the usual chatter before heading home.  4 riders were riding home with 2 into the head wind and the other 2 a tail wind home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 22nd February 2018

5 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were warm and cloudy with a light north easterly wind blowing. As we were about to commence riding there was some light drops of rain which was enough to dampen the roads. Once riding the rain disappeared and riding conditions were good.

We rode one of our usual 53km loops out to Newham via Bryces Lane, Chases Lane and back. As the wind was light heading north the pace was brisk and then we enjoyed a tail wind back to Woodend.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual chatter as we enjoyed our refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Social Ride – Kyneton – 18th February 2018

30 riders arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were a little cool at the start but the ride warmed up midway through. Another excellent number of members riding once again.

For the Strava tragics out there the conditions were very favorable for good times and all riders who have logged rides had massive numbers of PB,s during the ride.

13 riders rode the medium and or short ride with the remaining 17 the longer ride. 3 riders on the long ride shortened the ride and joined the medium ride. Riders on the longer ride who started from Woodend this morning left the ride at Ashbourne Rd and rode directly back to Woodend.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before everyone headed home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend -15th February 2018

4 riders started out this morning from Woodend for today’s ride. Weather conditions were perfect, although a little chilly at first. Or main stalwart/ride master (KM) and our president, both regular Thursday riders;  presumably recovering from their high country experiences.

The usual route was undertaken at a moderate pace. We collected an additional rider on the homeward journey who accompanied us to Woodend for post ride coffee. Peter seemed interested in joining us again and perhaps we will see him sign up to the club.

Sunday Social Ride – Woodend – 11th February 2018

37 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Another excellent turnout. Weather conditions were a lot different from the last few days being cool with a strong Southerly wind blowing.

21 riders rode the longer ride, 15 rode the medium ride and 1 member rode the short ride. Riders on the longer ride split into 2 groups with the faster riders out front and the remainder following at a slower pace. All riders enjoyed the fast tail wind sections of the ride. The medium ride modified the published route to avoid Cheveley Road directly into the head wind and rode Cobb & Co road instead which is more sheltered back to Woodend.

2 of our ladies decided they were going to ride 100km this morning and had a ride before the long ride but unfortunately finished about 5km short of 100km and rode an extra 5km after the cafe stop to achieve the magic number. Great work to Pene and Kath.

Most of the riders were together at the cafe following the ride. The usual good time was enjoyed before we departed for home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 8th February 2018

5 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were warm and humid with overcast conditions. As we were finishing the ride the clouds began to clear and it quickly became very hot .

We rode a 48km modified version of last weeks ride to Carlshrue via Anderson Rd. Newham, Bryces Lane and back to Woodend via Russells Rd, Crowes Lane.

As mentioned above conditions were pleasant until the sun shone through the clouds but as we were just finishing it was not enough to be a problem.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual chat and good company under the shade, however  as the sun shifted it became difficult to escape the heat so we all departed for home.

Sunday Social Ride – Gisborne – 4th February 2018

We had a  record number of 44 riders assemble for today’s ride on a glorious Sunday morning. Weather conditions were warm and sunny with little wind. Also 3 first time riders rode with the club plus members that had not ridden for many months.

2 riders rode the short ride, 23 riders rode the medium ride or variations of the ride and the remaining 19 rode the longer ride. On the medium ride there were various options to shorten the ride and a few members chose not to climb Waterfalls Road.

Once all riders were together at the cafe it was the usual laughter and fun outside under the shade of the trees. Mention must be made of one member who put his hand up for a chocolate milk shake and after he had consumed some of the drink  was informed by his wife that she did not order a milkshake. We never did find out whose drink he had but it sure made for more laughter. After everyone had there refreshments we all departed for home.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 1st February 2018

2 hardy members, myself and John M braved the weather conditions for today’s ride. A strong South Easterly wind and cool conditions greeted us. As John had never climbed Straws Lane we decided to ride a 48km loop out to Carlshrue, Newham, then climbing Bryces Lane, Straws Lane and Mt Macedon Rd to the saddle. Fortunately we were a little protected from the wind on the climbs. We also had a good tail wind out to Carlshrue and back to Woodend after the climbs. John also had a close encounter with a kangaroo near the bottom of the descent of Mt Macedon Road.

Once back at the cafe it was hot drinks sitting in the sun before heading home.
