Sunday Social Ride – Gisborne – 18th March 2018

15 riders arrived in Gisborne this morning to tackle today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool and not ideal for riding with very high winds and the threat of rain.

9 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 6 rode the long ride. 5 riders on the medium ride also rode over Mt Gisborne and rejoined the others in Deverall road. As riders were on the climb in Deverall Road there was some light sprinkles of rain plus some hail also. Riders were stopping at the top of the hill to put rain jackets on but fortunately that was the last of the rain. Riders on the long ride varied the ride with some not going to Waterfalls road and 2 who rode from Woodend returned home over Mt Macedon.

The remaining riders had the usual chatter and refreshments at the cafe before heading home.

Ride News – 7 Peaks Climbs

5 club members traveled to Dinner Plain on Wednesday 14th March to ride the final peaks to qualify for the 7 Peaks Challenge. 2 other members also traveled to Dinner Plain to do some riding.

Brett, Mark H and Ken M climbed Mt Hotham from Harrietville on the 14th and then continued on to Dinner Plain.

Brett, Mark H, Luke, Lindsay, and Ken M rode from Dinner Plain to Omeo and back the following day to complete the final climb and we were accompanied by Ken S & Jennie who drove to Omeo and had a ride from there.

Unfortunately Ken had a puncture which caused a tyre blowout but managed to get a lift  of  approx 20km with a Parks employee back to his car in Omeo. When Jennie got back to Omeo she then rode the climb from the top of ridge out of Omeo back to Dinner Plain, a distance of 35km plus the 44km’s previously ridden.

The 5 members who were riding the peaks have now completed all the climbs and are now eligible to purchase a 7 Peaks Jersey as an acknowledgement of their achievement.

Sunday Social Ride – Kyneton – 11th March 2018

28 riders assembled in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were clear skies and quite cool with a light wind blowing. As the ride commenced the weather soon began to warm up and the breeze freshened also. Fortunately the wind was from the north which meant a tail wind back to Kyneton.

17 riders commenced the long ride plus 2 others joined during the ride and the remaining 11 riders rode the medium ride. Ride conditions were ideal with a mainly downhill start and the return ride with the tail wind.

Both groups were together at the cafe which was mid ride at Malmsbury due to the Lost Trades Fair in Kyneton and the possibility of very crowded cafes. Once riders had finished their refreshments we then rode back to Kyneton together. Some riders started from Malmsbury and finished their ride after refreshments.

For the first time in living memory Davo did not have a second coffee stop when we returned to Kyneton.

2 riders who had not ridden for some months rode a shorter 40km route by not riding Chases Lane and returning direct to Woodend from Carlshrue. The weather conditions were a head wind for the first half and a tail wind back to Woodend. Love a tail wind home.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and discussions before we all headed for home.

Weather conditions were overcast with a cold south wind blowing. 12 riders started on the long ride, 15 on the medium ride and one riders rode the short ride. Riders on the long ride were joined by 5 other members who had sneaked out earlier at 7.15am  and climbed the mountain and back down to Straws Lane  where they waited for the other riders to arrive. The long ride  then became 17 riders.

One member on the medium ride had the misfortune to have a puncture just before commencing the climb up Mt Macedon Road and 3 members chose to stay and ride with him. They then rode up to Straws Lane and then the reverse direction of the ride and rejoined the remaining 8 riders on the medium ride near Carlshrue.

3 riders  rode a modified version of the medium ride by not climbing Mt Macedon Rd.

Once this was all sorted out and everyone was back together at the cafe there was a lot of chatter and fun about the various options chosen. After suitable refreshments we all went home with one rider riding back to Gisborne into the head wind.

2 riders arrived in Woodend for this mornings ride. Weather conditions were cool with misty rain and a strong Southerly wind blowing. We rode a 34km modified version of one of our usual rides out To Newham, Carlshrue and back to Woodend.

Once we rode away from Woodend the skies cleared and conditions were OK especially as we had the tail wind then. As we neared Woodend on the way back we rode into the similar conditions we had left earlier.

Once back into Woodend it was into the cafe for a warming drink before heading home.
