Thursday Ride – Woodend – 30th August 2018

4 hardy souls arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were very cold with a strengthening north wind and the threat of rain. One rider had some business to do at 9.00am and started later for the ride.

The remaining 3 rode a modified 40km version of our normal Thursday ride by eliminating the Chases Lane loop as the skies were looking very black part way through the ride. We arrived back in Woodend and were putting our bikes away as the rain began to fall. Good timing. Unfortunately the rider who had a later start was caught in the rain on the way back.

We were all together in the warmth of the cafe having our usual chatter and refreshments before all heading homeward.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 26th August 2018

19 riders arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were frosty at the start with the sun shining and a light breeze. As the ride progressed and the frost disappeared riding conditions were excellent.

8 riders rode the long ride, 9 the medium ride and the remaining 2 rode the short ride.  As usual riders on the long ride went off first and the remaining 11 rode together to the end of Youngs Road where they split into the medium and short rides. Conditions on the rides were good apart from a change of wind direction from the forecast for a light head wind on the return ride.

All riders were then together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home. One unnamed member of the medium group kept inquiring how long the long ride would be while waiting for her husband to return. Once all riders were back then everyone was happy.

6 brave riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. As we started we were joined by another rider having ridden up from Gisborne. Weather conditions were sunny, cold with a  very strong South Westerly wind blowing.

All 7 rode a 42km modified version of the published rides going to Newham via Bryces Lane, Carlshrue and back along Cobb & Co road. The first part of the ride out to Carlshrue was ridden in fine conditions with mainly a tail wind. As we commenced to ride back to Woodend into the head wind we could see dark skies ahead. Passing the Carlshrue Roadhouse the weather changed into Rain, followed by Sleet and finally Snow as we reached our cars in  Woodend.

It was a welcome relief to get into the warmth of the cafe for hot refreshments before heading home. 2 riders unfortunately had to ride their bikes home but the rain had ceased when they left the cafe.
