Sunday Ride – Woodend – 30th September 2018

34 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. An excellent number with the improved weather on the morning compared to the last weeks. Weather conditions were cloudy with a light breeze and the sun beginning to shine through. As the ride progressed we enjoyed increased sunshine on the ride. A welcome change from the cold riding conditions lately.

3 riders rode the shorter ride, 25 rode the medium ride and the remaining 6 rode the longer ride. We also had 2 first time riders with us this morning, 1 rode the long ride and the other the short ride. The ride was ridden at a good pace with a tail wind early followed by a light head wind to the start of Ashbourne Rd. From there we had a assisting wind back to Woodend.

Once back at the cafe the riders on both rides arrived back basically at the same time. Then it was a case of everyone sitting in the sun with the usual refreshments and chatter before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 27th September 2018

7 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were warm and sunny with a strong North Easterly wind blowing. Some riders even dispensed with riding with leg warmers or long knicks.

We rode our usual 52km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, then Chases Lane, Batters Lane and back along Cobb & Co Road. The strong wind made the ride difficult until we turned at Batters Lane and then had the tail wind back to Woodend.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual refreshments and chatter sitting in the sun before we all headed home.

Sunday Ride – Gisborne -23rd September 2018

8 riders assembled this morning in Gisborne for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cold with drizzly rain and a freshening South Westerly wind blowing.

5 riders commenced the long ride, 2 rode the medium ride and one rider who had ridden down from the Camel’s Hump decided to ride back with the tail wind instead of continuing into the rain and head wind.

One rider on the long ride rode a shortened version of the ride with remaining 4 completing the ride. The rain began ceased by the time we started back to Gisborne and with the tail wind conditions improved.

Once finished it was into the warmth of the cafe for a hot drink and a chat before heading home.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 16th September 2018

14 riders assembled in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cold with some sun shining. Members reported that many of them saw overnight snow at their homes. The wind was from the west and during the ride the wind was either a cross head wind or cross tail wind. Member numbers were down due to many riding the Amy’s Grand Fondo today.

10 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 4 rode the longer ride. On the medium ride 2 riders rode down Metcalfe Hill, myself and one other. As we crested the top of the climb on the way back one of our lady riders was stuck on the side of the road having trouble with a puncture. We both stopped to assist. The tyre was very difficult to remove from the wheel so no wonder the rider was having trouble. Once fixed we then proceeded with the ride.

We also attempted to intervene with an incident with a dog attacking a kangaroo. Fortunately the dog’s owner arrived on the scene and as best we were able to judge intervened and saved the day. We had some very light rain on the way back which only lasted a short dictance and not enough to think about putting rain jackets on. We then rode out into sunshine for the remainder of the ride.

All riders were then together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Sunday Ride – Woodend – 9th September 2018

27 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cloudy with a freshening North Westerly wind blowing. It was nice to be a little warmer than lately and not to have multiple layers to protect from the cold.

6 riders rode the longer ride and the remaining 20 rode the medium ride or modified versions of the ride with 1 rider riding the short ride. The numbers on the long ride were less than normal with many riders having later commitments and who rode the medium ride instead. 6 riders rode the modified version and bypassed the climb up Mt Macedon Road and instead went direct to Newham via Bryces Lane. Riders on the medium and short ride joined up at Cobb & Co Road and rode back to Woodend together. The wind was a head wind riding along Don’s Road and 3 Chain Road which then changed into a nice tail wind all the way back to Woodend.

Riders were all together for refreshments and the usual chatter at the cafe before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 6th September 2018

6 riders arrived in Woodend to do battle with this mornings conditions. The weather was cold, very windy with a strong North Easterly wind blowing and the ever present threat of rain. We managed to avoid almost all of the rain as we rode between 2 showers.

We rode a modified 42km version of our normal Thursday ride by eliminating the loop along Chases Lane to avoid the head wind. On the way back we rode Russell and Crows Road for some extra distance. We enjoyed a tail wind back from the end of Dons Road back.

Once back in Woodend it was the usual refreshments and chatter before we headed home. One rider had to ride back to Gisborne but would have had a nice tail wind for the ride.
