Sunday Ride – Woodend – 11th November 2018

32 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. We also had students, staff, and parents from Salesian College Sunbury who are in training for the Great Vic Ride. Weather conditions were sunny with a strong southerly wind blowing early which shifted during the ride.

22 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 10 rode the longer ride. 4 riders on the medium ride opted not to climb Mt Macedon Road and instead went direct to Newham. All others and the students rode up the Mount. Riders on the medium ride were back together at the end of 3 Chain Road and returned together.

Early during the long ride one member Ken S suffered a puncture as a result of riders in the group not indicating a pot hole in the road and he rode into the pot hole and had the puncture. As an add to the incident as he was about to leave the cafe to return to his car he observed what he thought to be some grass on the rim but on closer inspection revealed that the rim had a approx 50mm crack near one of the spoke holes. The rim will need to be replaced. Members are reminded that as etiquette and for safety reasons on group rides the necessity of pointing out obstacles by hand signal and or calling out.

After the ride members enjoyed the usual refreshments and chatter at the cafe before heading home.
