Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 20th January 2019

28 riders arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were warm with a strong Southerly wind blowing. Today’s ride was in 2 parts with a fast section out to Malmsbury with the tail wind, a harder section to the top of Shepherds Hill or for the longer ride the Pig and Whistle into the wind followed by another tail wind section back to Kyneton.

16 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 12 rode the longer ride. Everyone enjoyed the tail wind sections and not so the head winds. We had some riders climbing Shepherds Hill for the first time and all riders made it to the top without having to stop.

Once back at the cafe the early finishers were starting to leave when the riders on the longer were beginning to arrive. It was the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home. Good to see Ken S back on deck at the cafe also.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 17th January 2019

4 riders arrived in Woodend for today’s ride. Weather conditions were warm, humid, overcast skies and only a light wind and some rain beginning to fall. The rain never got heavy and the moisture was cooling.

We rode our normal 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning back at Batters Lane. The roads were mainly dry with just a few areas where some surface water had pooled on the road. About half way through the ride the sun began to shine through the clouds and it became quite warm from then on.

We were back in Woodend before the temperature got hot. It was then into the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before we headed home.

Sunday Ride – Woodend – 13th January 2019

19 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were sunny, with a very strong southerly wind blowing. Conditions on the ride up Mt Macedon Road were difficult with the most amount of debris with leaves, branches, bark etc. making the climb up to Straws Lane a bit treacherous. Once off the mount we enjoyed a mainly tail wind until rides reached the turning point at the end of 3 Chain Road in Carlshrue. All rides then had a hard slog back to Woodend into the wind.

The ride was also one for mechanical issues with one rider having the rear derailleur move and completely jam under the cassette. Fortunately it was early in the ride and a relatively short walk back to the car. Another rider managed to have 2 punctures.

4 riders rode modified versions of the medium ride, 11 rode the medium ride and the remaining 4 rode the longer ride. We also had 3 first time riders with us this morning. Definitely not a good time to start.

All riders were together at the cafe for the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home.

Sunday Ride – Gisborne – 6th January 2019

26 riders arrived in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were sunny with a southerly wind blowing and much cooler than previous days . We had some first time riders with us today and all rode the longer ride and coped well with the pace of the ride.

8 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 18 rode the longer ride. Ride conditions on the longer ride were at a fast pace with the wind assisting for most of the ride until reaching the turning point at Woodend for the ride back to Gisborne. As the ride back to Gisborne was mostly downhill after the climb out of Woodend the good speed continued for the remainder of the ride.

Back at the cafe it was the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 3rd January 2019

9 riders assembled this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool early but soon began to warm up as we commenced riding.

One member had the misfortune to have a puncture just as we were about to start. After replacing the tube with a new one, this tube would not inflate. This meant a further tube was used and this tube inflated correctly. A trip was made to the bike shop to get some replacement tubes to carry as all spares had been used.

We rode our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Rd to Chases Lane and back to Woodend at Batters Lane. We had favorable winds for most of the ride with a head wind for part of the way back to Woodend.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home.
