Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 28th July 2019

16 members assembled in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride on a cool start to the ride. 1 other member who had ridden to Kyneton joined us during the ride making 17 members in total. After the ride commenced the sun began to sign through and with only a slight breeze it was a very enjoyable ride.

12 riders rode the medium ride including a new member and a first time rider with us, the remaining 5 riders rode the long ride. 5 riders on the medium ride rode down Metcalfe Hill and climbed back up adding an extra 5km,s to the ride before rejoining the other members later in the ride. Both rides were ridden at a brisk pace with the early part of the rides being mainly downhill and the return ride with a tail wind assistance of the light breeze that was blowing.

All riders were together at the cafe as the long rider group returned as the medium riders were enjoying the usual chatter and refreshments. Once suitably refreshed we headed for home with some riders having to ride home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 25th July 2019

7 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool, cloudy with a north west wind blowing. As we commenced to ride the cloud on the mountain descended and we were in the cloud as we went around the back of Hanging Rock. Once into Newham we rode into clearer skies and had no more low cloud for the remainder of the ride.

2 riders rode the 45km shorter loop by not going down Bryces Lane and the other 5 rode the normal 53km via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane to Batters Lane. We had a head wind for most of the ride out to Batters Lane before turning for the ride back to Woodend and the tail wind home.

Once back in Woodend it was into the warmth of the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home. We were also joined by Michael C for a coffee with good news that he has been cleared to begin riding again. After a holiday soon we can expect to have him back riding with us.

20 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride on a windy start to the day. One other rider joined up with the group during the ride late due to the strong head wind as he rode up from Gisborne. As the ride commenced the sun began to shine through and we also enjoyed a tail wind for the latter part of the ride. It was also great to see Kath back riding with us again.

2 riders rode a modified short ride, 11 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 8 started on the long ride. Riders on the long ride split into groups according to their pace with 2 riders cutting the ride short due to time commitments, one rider left the group at Kyneton where he started his ride.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 18th July 2019

7 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were the best for many days with the sun shining and a light breeze. During the ride the wind speed picked up before the turning point to ride back to Woodend which meant a tail wind for way back.

5 riders rode our normal 53km loop to Newham via Bryces Lane, then 3 Chain Rd, Chases Lane and turning for the ride back to Woodend at Batters Lane. The other 2 riders rode the shorter 45km loop minus the Bryces Lane section. Most of the ride was on dry roads and bikes will most likely not need cleaning as has been the case for the majority of rides lately.

Once back in Woodend at the cafe and into the warmth it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Sunday Ride – Gisborne – 14th July 2019

15 members assembled in Gisborne this morning on a cold, wet & windy start to the day with the temperature about 1 degree. One rider commenting we must all be insane. Riders on the long ride were joined by another member making 16 in total, who had commenced riding from home which is along the route of the ride.

3 riders rode the short ride due to the weather conditions, 5 rode the medium ride and the remaining 8 rode the long ride. The medium ride was modified by all riders again due to weather conditions with ride distances averaging between 20kms and 40kms. There was an accident on the long ride from a clash of wheels resulting in 1 member being transferred by ambulance to hospital with a suspected broken collarbone and another suffering severe bruising. The rider who joined the ride late suffered a puncture and after effecting repairs returned home. As most of the others on the long ride having ridden to the start in Gisborne they rode directly home. One rider on the long ride rode back to the cafe to report on the condition of the fallen riders.

The riders on the short and medium ride were together for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 11th July 2019

4 members (poor souls with nothing better to do) turned up this morning for today’s ride under very trying weather conditions. There was a very strong North Westerly wind, heavy drizzling rain and temperatures not much above zero degrees, Fortunately as we rode from Woodend the weather conditions improved slightly the further north we rode. Heading back to the finish of the ride the weather conditions changed to much the same as we left earlier.

We rode a 45km shortened version of the usual Thursday ride by eliminating the Bryces Lane section. The ride out to Batters Lane was into the strong wind being either a block head wind or a cross head wind after which we then picked up the tail wind for the return back to Woodend.

Once back at the cafe it was inside into the warmth for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

7 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride on a cold morning with the sun shining and a southerly wind blowing. Jennie also drove into Woodend making 8 members and rode out to Carlshrue to join up with us and ride the way back. Great to see her back on the bike again. 3 riders ride the usual 53km loop to Bryces Lane, then Newham, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back. The other 4 bypassed the Bryces Lane loop for a total of 47km with the rides regrouping near the Carlshrue Roadhouse.
