Bright – Thursday – 21th November 2019

4 members rode a 40km out and back loop to Buckland Valley on a hot afternoon with a lot of smoke hanging around in the area. The remainder of the group decided not to ride due to the heat. As we were riding the heat was not bad as the air movement managed to keep us cool. When we were about to start the ride back we could hear a loud burst of thunder so we rode back as quick as possible to beat any storm.

Following the ride it was takeaway evening meal in the park which we managed to finish just as rain began to commence.

Sunday Ride – Gisborne -17th November 2019

21 members arrived in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride with another member joining the long ride after starting from home as the ride was going past the front door making 22 riders in all. The weather was overcast with a cold southerly wind blowing which remained constant for the entire ride.

9 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 13 rode the long ride. Both rides were tail wind or cross tail wind early in the ride with the opposite for the latter portion of the ride. As the latter portion of both rides were mainly down hill the head wind was not such a big issue. 2 riders on the medium ride rode a slightly shorter version with another rider adding in some extra hills just for practice. The medium ride was all back together for the last portion of the ride.

Back at the cafe it was everyone together for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 14th November 2019

5 members arrived in Woodend this morning under grey skies and some misty cloud present with a strong North Westerly Wind blowing. The sun began to shine soon after we commenced riding and we had sections of sunshine followed by overcast skies. Numbers were down as a few members were away at this time.

We rode our usual ride out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Rd, Chases Lane and turning for the ride back to Woodend at Batters Lane. The ride out to Batters was mainly a head wind or cross head wind. Once in Batters Lane we then had a tail wind for most of the way back to Woodend except nearing Woodend the wind seemed to shift to a more South Westerly direction just to make things difficult. Ride speed was good considering the amount of head wind riding.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 10th November 2019

26 members arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were windy with a strong south westerly wind blowing and overcast skies. The ride was a tail wind early followed by a head wind during the middle portion of the ride and then a tail wind back to Kyneton.

12 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 14 rode the longer ride. Both rides were ridden at a good pace with some of the climbing sheltered from the wind and then the tail wind back. One rider on the medium ride climbed Shepherds Hill for the first time with another having climbed once before. Both riders accomplished the climb without any problems. A good effort to both of them. 9 riders on the long ride who had ridden up from Woodend went back there along Ashbourne Road instead of riding to Kyneton.

The remaining riders were together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home with the last of the riders on the long ride arriving as the remainder were about to leave.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 7th November 2019

6 brave souls arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cold with a gale force West North Westerly wind blowing, and the threat of rain, definitely nor ideal riding weather.

We rode our usual 53km ride out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road to Chases Lane and turning for the ride back to Woodend at Batters Lane. One rider did not ride the Chases Lane loop as he had to be back early. The ride out to Batters Lane was mainly either a head wind or cross head wind making it difficult for that portion of the ride. Once turning at Batters Lane the ride back was tail wind or cross tail wind which was mush better than the earlier part of the ride. Riding in both directions the cross wind gusts made keeping the bike straight very tricky at times.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we headed home with one member having to ride home but luckily it was a  tail wind for the ride.

Sunday Ride – Woodend – 3rd November 2019

25 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. The weather was overcast with some fog around Woodend and a light Northerly wind blowing. As the ride commenced the fog began to lift and we had patches of sunshine, however the morning was mainly overcast and mild.

18 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 7 rode the longer ride. The medium ride split into 2 groups with the faster 9 in front followed by the remaining riders. Riders on the long ride maintained a fast pace and were back at the cafe just after the medium riders were getting settled. One of the riders on the long ride managed to get separated from the group and not having checked the map details for the ride turned right at the bottom of Bryces Lane and rode to Lancefield whereas the other turned left and rode in the opposite direction. The ride distance was much the same as the others, and everyone including the rider had a good laugh back at the cafe. To protect the foolish no names will be mentioned but I expect a closer look at the ride details in future.

All riders were together back at the cafe where we all enjoyed the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

8 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride on a hot morning with a strong North Westerly Wind blowing. Michael C also had  his first Thursday ride for many months and it was good to see him back and riding well.

We rode our normal 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. The ride basically was a head wind or cross head wind out to Batters Lane followed by the tail wind back to Woodend. The ride averaged 24kph which was a good average speed due to the head winds early.

Back in Woodend at the cafe it was the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home.

The second group of 11 members rode together until the rides reached the point where shortened versions were available with one member riding a shortened version of the medium ride, another member rode the medium ride and the remaining 9 rode the longer ride.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 24th October 2019

9 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. The weather was nice and warm with a north easterly wind blowing. It was great to be riding without the extra layers of clothing of previous rides. The average speed of the ride was in excess of 24.3kmp. being the slowest rider and the others faster. We also had a first time rider with us who has just moved up to live in Mt Macedon.

We rode our normal 53km route out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Rd to Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. We had a head wind for large portions of the ride out to Batters Lane and then the tail wind for the ride back to Woodend. One rider rode the 45km shortened version by eliminating the Bryces Lane loop.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home. Michael C also joined us at the cafe after having ridden up to the Cross at Mt Macedon. Obviously fully recovered and good the see him riding again.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 20th October 2019

30 members arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. The weather was cool with a strong south westerly wind blowing. The day warmed up slightly during the ride but the wind was strong enough to keep the temperature down. We also had one rider with us for the first time today who rode the long ride. The start of the ride was delayed when one member noticed that there was no helmet in the car. A short trip to a local members house to get a spare and all was well. Names will not be mentioned.

20 riders rode the medium ride, 7 riders rode the long ride and the remaining 3 attempted to chase and catch the 7 on the long ride. While 2 caught the group they decided not to continue the long ride and waited for  the medium ride instead which made 23 riders for the medium ride. Both rides were ridden at a good pace especially allowing for the head wind up Shepherds Hill and the ride out to the Pig & Whistle for the long ride. The medium ride split into 2 groups from the top of Shepherds Hill as the wind was cold and the early riders up the climb started to cool down quickly. Both rides enjoyed a tail wind back to Kyneton from the turning point of the rides.

All members were together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home. Some of the members on both rides had ridden from Woodend. Those on the long ride went straight back to Woodend via Ashbourne Road.
