Sunday Social Ride – Gisborne – 30th October 2016

10 riders arrived at the New Gisborne Car Park this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were very windy with a strong North West wind blowing, sun shining and rain had ceased. All riders rode a 36km modified medium route. We rode up to Nursery Road as per published route, followed by the climb up Waterfalls Road then back down Mt Macedon Road to Hamilton Road where we rejoined the published ride. Because of the strong winds we did not ride the Baringo loop. For most of the ride when riding northwards we were reasonably well protected from the worst of the wind.

From the top of Waterfalls Road into Gisborne we enjoyed the tail wind.  A head wind back to Ferrier Road followed before the final tail wind back to the cafe.

Once at the cafe it was warm sitting in the sun out of the breeze. A good time and chat was had by all over refreshments. Everyone agreed that it was a great ride and after refreshments were finished we departed for home pleased with the ride.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 27th October 2016

7 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were cool and very windy. We rode a 45km circuit to New Gisborne and back via Baringo, McBean Ave and Black Forrest Drive. The ride headed into the wind followed by a tail wind back to Woodend. Once we reached New Gisborne the wind was then assisting us most of the way for the remainder of the ride. At the conclusion of the ride all members agreed that the ride was good considering the wind.

When we arrived at the cafe it then became obvious how cold it was on the bikes. Everyone enjoyed a good break inside the cafe in the warmth before all heading home.

5 riders assembled in Woodend for today’s ride. Conditions were sunny with a strengthening wind. To get some climbing practice for the upcoming Bright trip we rode a 39k circuit which began with a leisurely climb out of the wind up Mt Macedon Road to Cameron Drive. We then rode back down the Mount and out to Carlshrue then back via Cheveley Road. We had a nice tail wind for the latter part of the ride. Rohan rode some extra distance to achieve his aim of completing the Strava 1,000km monthly challenge.

After the usual chat and coffee we all departed for home tired, but glad of the climbing practice.

Sunday Social Ride – Woodend – 16th October 2016

23 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were good with the wind still light at the commencement of the ride. All members welcomed the chance to ride in warmer conditions than we have had recently. We had 2 first time riders with the club this morning also.

8 riders rode the longer route and the remaining 15 riders the shorter route. On the shorter ride we had the misfortune to have a clash of wheels with 2 riders falling . One rider had some skin off on his hands and some bleeding while the other rider landed on his elbow and suffered bruising and some bleeding. Both riders were able to complete the ride and were accompanied by fellow riders to ensure all was well. By the time riders were heading back to Woodend the wind had begun to strengthen but by then it was a tail wind for all.

All riders arrived back at the cafe at the same time which put the staff there under some pressure to serve all of us plus their other customers. After the usual chatter and refreshments everyone departed for home. One rider rode back over the Mount and another rode back to Gisborne.

8 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Conditions were cold and very windy. We rode one of our normal circuits of 46kms out via Newham, Chases Lane and back via Batters Lane. The ride was great when we enjoyed the tail wind and ordinary into the head wind. Even though conditions were tough it was nice to have the sun shining and no rain for a change. Rohan also rode with us this morning for his first ride with us for some time.

Following the usual coffee and a chat everyone departed for home glad of a ride in fine conditions.

Sunday Social Ride – Gisborne – 9th October 2016

16 riders assembled in Gisborne this morning on a day that was definitely not a good day for  riding. 5 riders rode the longer route, 10 the medium and one rider decided not to ride. All riders rode modified routes because of the extreme wind conditions. We encountered multiple trees down across the road in Baringo which entailed either clambering over or under fallen trees. The cross winds were so severe that it was difficult to keep the bike straight. Once we came out of Baringo all but 2 riders on the medium ride rode straight back to Gisborne. Nick wanted to climb Waterfalls road so I kept him company for safety. 3 Riders on the long ride also rode back to Woodend and the remaining 2 turned back and rode an amended route also.  The only enjoyable part of the ride was the tail wind back to Gisborne.

After the ride it was nice to be able to get out of the wind and enjoy the warmth and company in the cafe.

Thursday Social Ride – Woodend – 6th October 2016

6 riders assembled this morning in Woodend for today’s ride. Sunny conditions with a strong north wind blowing greeted the riders. They rode a 42km ride into the wind for the tail wind back. I later joined the ride as I had an prior commitment and rode a 30km loop also into the wind hoping to meet the others part way through the ride. Unfortunately this did not happen but I had only just finished and put my bike away when the 6 riders arrived back. It was very enjoyable to be able to ride in the sun for a change and not be freezing cold.

Following the ride everyone had the mandatory coffee, a good chat and then departed for home.

After the coffee break Luke and I decided to ride some more and went up Mt Macedon Rd to Straws Ln and back via Collwell’s Rd. a distance of 22km for some hill training.

Sunday Social Ride – Kyneton – 2nd October 2016

21 riders assembled this morning under sunny skies with a light wind blowing. 8 riders rode the longer ride, 8 the medium ride and 5 the shorter ride. We also had some first time rider with the club this morning and all appeared to have a good time. The medium and short groups rode together till the regrouping point at the end of Young’s Road. 2 riders from the longer ride chose to shorten their ride to the medium distance. As the ride progressed the wind began to get much stronger. A nice tail wind pushed the riders up the climbs and fortunately the sections into the wind were mainly downhill.

After the ride we enjoyed the calm of the cafe out of the wind. A good social time ensued before every one departed for home. Riders on the longer ride went to the cafe opposite and I joined up with them for a chat before heading home.
