Thursday Ride – Woodend – 28th June2018

7 hardy souls arrived in Woodend to brave today’s ride conditions. The temperature was around about zero degrees with significant frost on the ground. It was cold hands and feet for the early part of the ride. By the time we had ridden out to the back of Hanging Rock the frost had begun to dissipate and the conditions were then better. Unfortunately the sun never shone through so it did not warm up a lot.

We rode our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane then Chases Lane and back commencing in Batters Lane. Riding conditions were good with only a light breeze and we soon began to feel a little warmer.

Once back at the cafe it was good to get into the warmth, have a hot drink and a chat before heading home.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 24th June 2018

Sixteen riders assembled in Kyneton this morning . Conditions were cold but fine, with a moderate southerly wind. It was noted that numbers were down due to several members having fled to try their luck cycling in Europe. Five riders set out on the long ride, with one latecomer bolting to catch up, which he did shortly before the Burke and Wills track. It was the first time out the Sidonia road for two of the riders and much mention was made about the splendour of the scenery.

One rider on the medium ride skipped the coffee shop and returned to Woodend, from whence she had rode. All long distance riders shortened their ride due to the distinct aroma of coffee detected near the corner of Chases Lane. The short distance riders were well and truly finished refreshments by the time the last riders returned to join the medium group in the warmth of the coffee shop. Three riders then returned to Woodend on their bikes with one intrepid fellow riding all the way back to Gisborne.

7 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were a severe frost with clear skies. By the time we had ridden to Newham we were out of the treed area and the sun was shining. Yeeea.

We rode our normal 53km Thursday route out to Newham via Bryces Lane then to Chases Lane and back commencing in Batters Lane. We had a slight headwind out to the end of Chases Lane then a tail wind back to Woodend. One rider rode the shortened version of the ride by not going down Chases Lane. Once the sun began shining it was a good ride and the cold lessened and we started to warm up a little.

Back at the cafe it was the usual refreshments and chatter before we headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 14th June 2018

1 solitary foolhardy rider arrived in Woodend for today’s ride. Weather conditions were very cold with a strong North Westerly wind blowing and the threat of rain.

As the only rider was myself I rode a modified 43km version of our normal Thursday ride out to Newham then bypassed Chases Lane to get out of the headwind. Once I turned at Carlshrue I had a great ride back with a good tail wind all the way. There was no rain during the ride and the only problem was the cold and the wind.

Once back in Woodend it was great to get into the warmth of the cafe for refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 7th June 2018

4 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. A cold morning with a very strong North Westerly wind awaited us for the ride. Prior to departing one of the riders had a phone call with a family issue and decided not to ride.

3 riders commenced to ride our normal 53km Thursday ride to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and back along Batters Lane. The ride was slow early as we were riding directly into the wind for most of the way. Once we reached Pipers Creek Road we  had either a cross tail wind or a direct tail wind back to Woodend.

Once back in Woodend it was into the warmth of the cafe for the usual refreshments and chat before heading home.
