Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 30th December 2018

17 riders assembled in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cloudy with showers about. By the time we commenced riding the sun had begun to shine. During the ride as we reached Anderson Road we began to ride into misty rain. It was then a question of whether to put on rain jackets or not. However once we reached Dons Road we rode back into sunshine for the remainder of the ride.

All riders rode the medium ride with 12 riders riding an extra 7km approx by going down Bryces Lane and back to Newham. The other 5 rode direct to Newham. With the ever present threat of showers members did not ride the longer ride just in case they were caught in the rain. One rider on the extended ride had the misfortune to suffer a puncture when riding into a pothole.

All riders were back together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend -27th December 2018

6 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. 3 other members were out earlier to beat the heat. 4 others missed the early start email or did not get the email at all. The morning was getting warm as we started and the wind was also strengthening.

We rode a modified 42km version of our normal route by eliminating Chases Lane and adding in Russells Rd and Crows Rd. The early part of the ride appeared to be into the wind until we turned at Cobb & Co to head back to Woodend where we had some wind assistance.

Dave’s bike also had an occurrence of a previous issue where it did not want to turn when on the way back to the cafe. Once back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments with the other members who also arrived at the cafe before we had departed for home.

Sunday Ride – Woodend – 23rd December 2018

32 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were the best we have had for some weeks with a warm morning and the sun shining and only a light breeze. The wind seemed to be an assisting wind for the most part resulting in fast times being set on the rides. We also had 2 first time riders with the club this morning.

12 riders commenced on the longer ride, 18 started the medium ride and 2 rode the short ride. During the ride 2 riders on the medium ride decided to continue on and complete the long ride and a further 2 cut the medium ride short. 1 rider who had time commitments and the other who had a mechanical problem which meant a walk back to the start. Fortunately he had only ridden about 2 to 3km by the time the issue occurred That left 14 riders on the long ride, 14 on the medium ride and 2 on the short ride.

Once back at the cafe it was most of the riders together who enjoyed the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 16th December 2018

17 riders arrived in Kyneton this morning to tackle today’s conditions. The weather was cloudy with persistent rain for the entire rides. We had light rain followed by short patches of no rain again followed by more rain. This pattern continued for the entire ride.

2 riders rode the short ride, 6 rode the medium ride and the remaining 9 rode the longer ride. The longer split into 2 groups with the faster 5 riders in front followed by the other 4 riders. The longer ride also rode a modified 53km ride by eliminating the section in Chases Lane and instead riding direct to Kyneton. One rider on the longer ride also had a fall when on a turn he rode onto the white paint and slipped on the wet surface.

Once back in Kyneton it was into the cafe for refreshments or some riders went direct to the velodrome to change into dry clothes and then to the End Of Year Function which was held at the velodrome. The usual refreshments plus a feed was then enjoyed by all before we all headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend -13th December 2018

2 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cloudy with the threat of rain. After checking the weather radar it showed a band of rain had passed through with another band of rain to follow.

We rode a modified 32km version of the normal Thursday ride with a close eye on the weather. On arrival in Newham we could see some very black clouds in the direction of Carlshrue. We decided to turn back at that point and rode Anderson Rd, Russells Rd,Crows Rd back to Woodend. As we neared the top of Crows Rd it started to rain lightly and with the downhill part into Woodend we were back at the car by the time the rain got heavy.

It was then into the cafe for a chat and refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Ride – Gisborne – 9th December 2018

Ride report compiled by Dave as I was in Bright climbing mountains

On this misty Sunday morning 8 hardy souls arrived at New Gisborne with bikes.

One insisted on riding the long ride, and it was only with vigorous persuasion that she joined the others on the medium ride. ( Is that good, Kath?)

The conditions were mild and the atmosphere made for a very enjoyable ride.

A really strange thing happened as we rode down Baringo road towards Hamilton Road. The steering on all 8 bikes locked in centre position. Given this problem, we thought it best just to ride straight ahead to the coffee shop. The problem just disappeared after we had coffee. Amazing!

Good ride, good banter, good coffee. What more could we want. Not jealous of the Bright group at all.

Bright Trip – Sunday – 9th December 2018

11 riders rode from Bright to Harrietville and back, a distance of 50km and 5 riders climbed Falls Creek from Mt Beauty, a distance of 62km. Ride conditions on both rides were wet early and sunshine and drying roads by the end of the rides.

On the mount it was dry early, changing to heavier rain 10 to 15km from the top and when I reached the top the sun was starting to break through the clouds. On the descent the roads had dried after the first 5km, the sun then shone and it was quite warm as we completed the descent.
