Sunday Ride – Woodend – 28th April 2019

23 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cold, cloudy with a strong Westerly wind blowing. Most riders were wearing rain jackets to protect from the wind.

2 riders rode the short ride, 14 rode the medium ride and the remaining 7 road the long ride. Due to the westerly wind the medium and long ride were difficult early as both rides were into the wind. Eventually both rides had a tail wind and riding conditions were much better from then on. The favourable wind on the way back to Woodend meant ride speeds improved from then.

the medium and shot rides were together at the cafe and the long ride was just getting back as the last of the members were leaving for home. The usual refreshments and chatter were enjoyed before we headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 25th April 2019

9 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool early with the sun shining. Once we commenced riding and rode out of the treed area the temperature soon warmed up.

We had Ken S back riding his first official club ride for some time. He and one other newer member rode a modified version of our usual Thursday ride by eliminating Bryces Lane and Chases Lane loop for a distance of 40km. The remaining 7 rode the usual 53km loop. With a tail wind out to Batters Lane and the fast riders out the front towing the lesser riders along a fast pace was set for the ride. Once we turned at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend the wind had begun to shift to a North Westerly direction which also made for a faster return to Woodend without the head wind.

Back at the cafe we were all together for the usual refreshments and chatter before we headed home.

20 riders assembled in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. We were greeted by a warm, overcast and very windy morning. All rides were modified from the published routes due to road works at one of the intersections by eliminating that section and rejoining the route at a later point.

3 riders rode the short ride, 9 rode the medium ride and the remaining 8 rode the longer ride. All rides had a head wind when riding in a northerly direction. Once at the top of the climbs we then had a strong tail wind for the later part of the ride.

Both the medium and the long rides arrived back at the cafe at nearly the same time and the riders on the short ride were still there waiting for the others to return. We then enjoyed the usual refreshments and chatter before heading home.

Good Friday Ride – Woodend – 19th April 2019

20 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride on a sunny morning with a light southerly wind. With the tail wind the ride was fast out to Malmsbury especially as the hills are easier when riding in the direction we were traveling. Once in Malmsbury we then enjoyed our liquid refreshments sitting in the outdoor area with hot cross buns and everyone had a good chat before we commenced the return ride to Woodend.

As we returned to Woodend the wind began to change to a northerly direction and we had an assisting wind for most of the ride back. This resulted in a fast pace for the entire ride. Nice to get a ride in without having a tail wind followed by a strong head wind for the return ride.

Once back in Woodend it was to late for a second cafe stop due to early closing so after further chatter we all headed homeward.

Once we reached Batters Lane it was a direct head wind all the way back with only a few spots where we sheltered slightly from the wind.

Back at the cafe where we were joined by Michael C who has been unable to ride for some weeks and the usual refreshments and chatter followed before we all headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 11th April 2019

7 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were sunny with a South Easterly wind blowing. We were joined by Ken S for the latter portion of this morning’s ride. Good to see him back riding again.

We rode our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Rd to Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend.
