Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 18th March 2021

8 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were ideal for a ride with sunny skies and a light breeze. The temperature increased during the ride and we had one of the better rides for some time.

We rode our usual 53km circuit out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. I had to modify my ride after having a mechanical problem with my rear derailleur on 3 Chain Road. I then had to ride back to Woodend on the smallest cog of the rear cassette.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we headed home.

Sunday Club Ride – Gisborne – 14th March 2021

20 members arrived in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. The weather was very cold at the start with the sun shining and a strong southerly wind blowing. Another member joined the long ride after having ridden from Woodend.

11 members rode the medium ride and 10 rode the longer ride. One member shortened the medium ride as he had other commitments. With the southerly wind blowing both rides had a tail wind up the climbs followed by a head wind back to Gisborne. 3 members on the medium ride also climbed Waterfalls & Governors Roads for the first time. An excellent effort. Fortunately most of the ride back to Gisborne was downhill and the wind was not a big hindrance.

Riders were together at the cafe except that is was very cold under the trees and the medium group had left just before the long ride group arrived. The usual chatter and refreshments were enjoyed before everyone went home.

We rode our usual 53km circuit out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. Ride speeds were good due to the tail wind on the way back. It was also good to see one of our riders who had not been riding for a few months back again.

Sunday Club Ride – Woodend -7th February 2021

18 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were typical for a winters day and not mid February. Cold, misty rain and a strong south westerly wind blowing. We also had a new member having their first ride with the club and another rider having their first ride with us.

5 riders rode the fast long ride, 6 rode the slower long ride. 2 riders rode the medium ride up to Straws Lane and the remaining 6 rode a modified medium ride. Due to the strong wind all rides were modified slightly by each group to get a much protection from the wind towards the finish of the rides. We also had a mechanical on the long ride when one rider suffered a puncture. After repairing the puncture managed to snap the rear derailleur when replacing the wheel and needed  a lift back to Woodend.

All riders were together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments. Everyone did not stay for long at the cafe due to the cold wind before heading home.
