AFL Holiday Ride Friday 28th September 2018

The Road to Clunes

The Club is planning a social ride in the Clunes area on the AFL Holiday, Friday 28th September 2018. We have designed a choice of three routes starting at either Blampied or Smeaton.

The ride will go ahead if there is enough people interested and the weather forecast is reasonable. Check the route you select for the ride start time. The rides are all on fairly flat sealed (apart from a short stretch on Route 3) back roads. Coffee at Clunes, Widow Twankey’s Cafe is open. Lunch at Cumberland Hotel, Smeaton.

Blampied (Swiss Mountain Hotel) is 45 minutes drive from Woodend passing through Daylesford and onto the Midland Highway. To get to Smeaton turn right at Blampied and follow the signs, it’s another 10 km further on. Please fill out the form below to let us know you are coming.

Route 1

Blampied  – Coghills Creek – Clunes Loop 78.5 km https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28640616
Park on the side road (Treweeks Rd) next to the Swiss Mountain Hotel on the Midland Highway at Blampied. Meet at 9.50 am for a 10.00 am start.

Route 2

Smeaton – Coghills Creek – Clunes Loop 58 km https://ridewithgps.com/routes/11024217
Park at the side of the Cumberland Hotel, Smeaton on the Daylesford-Clunes Rd. Meet at 10.20 am for a 10.30 am start. The riders on the 78 km ride will join the group.

Route 3

Smeaton – Ultimo – Clunes Loop 44.6 km https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28643895
Park at the side of the Cumberland Hotel, Smeaton on the Daylesford-Clunes Rd . Meet at 10.20 am for a 10.30 am start. There is unlikely to be a rider with this group who is familiar with the route (which is actually quite straight forward) so please print out the map and directions from the Ride with GPS link above. We will assist you before you leave.
Note: there is about 1 km of unsealed road (hard packed granitic sand type surface) on this route at the end of Cemetery Rd. It was quite doable on road bike tyres on previous rides.
