Sunday Ride – Gisborne – 15th September 2019

9 members (poor deluded souls) assembled in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were very windy with a north westerly wind. A rain shower had come through the area at about 8.00am but by the time the ride commenced the roads had dried and apart from the strong head and cross winds, ride conditions were good especially during the tail wind sections.

7 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 2 rode the longer ride. One other member who started from home also rode the longer ride and joined us at the cafe later but ahead of the other 2 on the long ride. There was an amusing incident on the long ride, names will not be mentioned. When the slower of the 2 riders reached the Kerrie Hall he found the other rider sitting on the side of the road watching highlights of the Vuelta on his phone. One way to catch up on the latest racing news.

We were all together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 12th September 2019

12 members arrived in Woodend this morning on a sunny day with a cool & strong northerly wind blowing. As the ride progressed the temperature began to rise and by the end of the ride conditions were as good as we have had for some time.

3 riders elected to climb Mt Macedon and the remaining 9 rode our normal 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. 2 riders also rode to Woodend from Gisborne for the ride which was straight into the head wind. On the ride out to Batters Lane we had a head wind or cross head wind for most of the way followed by a tail wind for the ride back to Woodend.

Once back in Woodend it was sitting outside at the cafe in the sunshine while we enjoyed the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 8th September 2019

22 members assembled in Kyneton this morning on a cold morning with low cloud, a strong north westerly wind blowing and the ever present threat of rain. As the rides progressed the cloud lifted and conditions improved. All rides encountered a light short sprinkle of rain that was nor heavy enough to dampen the road and we quickly rode out of the rain.

2 riders rode the short ride as they were both returning from injuries, 10 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 10 rode the longer ride. as most of the riders on the long ride had ridden from Woodend they returned direct there to reduce the distance of the ride. We also had one other member on the long ride who had not ridden for some time also due to injuries and it was good to see him back riding again.

Once back into the warmth at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 5th September 2019

6 member arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions had some local fog, a light northerly wind and clear sunny skies once away from Woodend.

We rode our usual 53km Thursday ride to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. One of the riders was having his first ride for some time and rode the shorter loop by eliminating the Chases Lane section. With the light breeze and sunny skies it was a very enjoyable ride with a faster than usual average speed for the ride.

Once back in Woodend it was warm enough to sit outside in the sun where we enjoyed the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

All rides were held at a good pace as the main portion of the ride was with either a cross tail wind or a full tail wind.

4 riders rode the long ride with the remaining 10 riders setting off together to ride the medium ride. 2 riders on the medium ride elected to ride a 57km modified shortened version of the long ride and one member rode the short ride due to time commitments.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 29th August 2019

3 hardy members turned up for today’s ride on a very cold overcast morning with a strengthening south east wind and wet roads. As we commenced to ride we rode into sunny skies and dry roads. (Fortune favours the foolish). Unfortunately the wind did not die down and while we had a tail wind for most of the ride out to Batters Lane it was straight into the wind for the ride back to Woodend.

We rode our normal 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Rd, Chases Lane and turning for the ride back to Woodend at Batters Lane. As mentioned above the ride out to Batters Lane was at a good speed with the tail wind then a struggle back to Woodend into the wind.

Back in Woodend it was into the warmth of the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before we headed home.

Sunday Ride – Gisborne – 25th August 2019

18 members arrived in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were a little frosty with the sun shining and a light southerly wind blowing. Good to see a couple of our members back from cycling in Europe even if they were suffering from the change in temperature.

9 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 9 rode the long ride. 2 riders on the medium ride climbed Mt Gisborne before rejoining the other riders, 2 other riders shortened the ride as one member was having back troubles and the remaining 7 added in a 6km section up to Mcbean Ave.

Back in the cafe members were together for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 22nd August 2019

5 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cold, very windy with the sun shining through. During the ride regardless of the direction we were riding we seemed to have either a block head wind or a cross head wind. Even on the sections where there normally would be a tail wind it was rarely the case.

We rode our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend.

Once back in Woodend it was a welcome relief to get out of the wind and into the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 18th August 2019

14 members arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. The conditions  were a lot better than the snow of last Sunday where there was no ride. The morning was much milder than previous weeks but with a very strong North Easterly wind blowing.

5 riders rode an extended version of the short ride, 5 rode the medium ride and the remaining 4 rode the longer ride. The rides were difficult early as the first part of the rides were into the wind, fortunately by the mid point of the rides all groups were heading back toward Kyneton and had the benefit of the tail wind for most of the remainder of the ride.

Once back in Kyneton it was all together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home. Everyone did agree that while the conditions were difficult they were glad they made the effort.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 15th August 2019

6 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were frosty early with the sun shining and a strong Northerly wind blowing. We were joined by another member during the ride who after arriving late rode the route in reverse and met up with us in Pipers Creek Road. We also had 2 of our lady members riding with us who do not normally ride on Thursdays.

5 riders rode our normal 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, Chases Lane, Batters Lane back to Woodend. On the ride the temperature began warming up by the time we reached Newham. One member cut the ride short by eliminating the Chases Lane loop as he was having his first ride back on the bike after some months. The ride was into the head wind or cross head wind for most of the way out to Batters Lane before we then had the tail wind back to Woodend.

Once back in Woodend it was into the warmth of the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before we headed for home.
