Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 7th January 2021

7 members arrived in Woodend for this mornings ride. The weather conditions were overcast with a strengthening southerly wind blowing. As we rode out of Woodend the sky cleared and we enjoyed sunshine for the remainder of the ride.

We rode our usual 53km circuit out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. One rider shortened the ride by not riding the Chases Lane loop as he had to be back home early. The first part was mainly a tail wind out to Batters Lane. We then encountered a head wind for the ride back to Woodend. These weather conditions have been the same for many months. Head wind out followed by a tail wind back.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Club Ride – Kyneton – 3rd January 2021

20 members arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. The weather was very cloudy with rain threatening for the first club ride of the year.

14 members rode the medium ride and the remaining 6 rode the long ride. Riders on the medium ride encountered a heavy shower as they turned into Malmsbury East Road.  Riders stopped at the regrouping point to put rain jackets with some of the riders stopping when the shower started to don jackets. The rain had stopped by the time we commenced riding again and we had no more for the remainder of the ride. 4 riders decided not to ride the medium ride and rode the short ride instead. Once the remainder topped Shepherds Hill Road the sun came out and the roads dried very quickly.   Riders on the long ride were lucky and missed the rain entirely.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 31st December 2020

12 members assembled in Woodend this morning for the last club ride of the year. Weather conditions were cold, a very strong South Easterly wind and light drizzle. Another member joined us on the ride at Newham. Once we crossed the freeway out of Woodend we rode into sunshine and this remained until the last portion of the ride as we rode back into the conditions we had left earlier.

We rode our usual 53km circuit out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning for the ride back to Woodend at Batters Lane. 3 Members decided not to ride the Chases Lane section and rode 40km instead. For most of the ride we had an assisting tail wind until we reached Batters Lane. From there back to Woodend it was slow and straight into the head wind. Everyone one was glad to finish the ride and get out of the wind.

At the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Sunday Club Ride – Woodend -27th December 2020

28 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were warm with a strong northerly wind blowing which strengthened during the ride.

12 riders rode the medium ride, 11 rode the faster long ride, 4 rode the medium pace long ride. One rider rode Ashbourne Road and back having ridden up the mount earlier. The sections of the ride into the wind were mainly downhill and then riders had the tail wind back to Woodend for the last portion of the ride. This made all rides ridden at a fast pace.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 24th December 2020

7 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool, overcast with some misty rain early. During the ride the weather cleared after we left Woodend with mainly sunny breaks. It was also good to see 2 of our riders who had issues last Sunday back riding today. The member who had the broken gear cable was back riding with a new cable fitted plus the wounded warrior who had crashed was also back on the bike for the first time since Sunday.

We rode our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. We had mainly wind assistance until we turned at Batters Lane.  We then had a head wind for the ride back to Woodend. The ride was typical of late being reasonably quick early with a slower ride back to Woodend.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

20 Dec

Sunday Club Ride – Gisborne – 20th December 2020

27 members assembled in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were the best we have had for a Sunday ride for many weeks. Clear skies, Light Breeze and warm temperatures.

6 riders rode the medium ride with the remaining 21 the long ride. The long ride split into 2 groups with 11 in the faster group and 10 in the slower group. There were multiple incidents on the long ride.

The first incident was a member having trouble with his DI2 gears not shifting. Upon resolving the problem he continued the ride.     The second incident near Kerrie Hall with another member having his rear derailleur cable break and could then only ride in the smallest rear cog and struggled climbing the hills.                                          The third incident  on the way back along BFD from Woodend with one  rider having a puncture causing him to slow suddenly and the rider behind crashing into him and having a fall. We called the ambulance and waited with him until they arrived and transfered him to hospital for further tests. A quick update is he has had tests which were all OK. Now waiting on wounds being cleaned and some jabs before hopefully being released today.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home  The delayed group was late getting back and decided not to have a cafe stop and proceeded home.

Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 17th December 2020

7 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were warm with a slight breeze blowing. During the ride the wind began to strengthen and  turned into a tail wind for the ride back to Woodend. Due to the ideal wind conditions rides were much quicker than previous weeks as we did not have to battle a strong head wind back.

We rode our usual 53km ride to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. All riders enjoyed the ride because of the conditions. Nice to be warm for a change.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Sunday Club Ride – Kyneton – 13th December 2020

22 riders assembled in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. We also had one first time ride with us. Weather conditions were warm and sunny with a north easterly wind blowing. It was also good to see many members riding again that have not ridden much with the club over recent months.

11 riders rode the medium ride and the other 11 rode the longer ride with 2 groups of 7 riders and 4 riders. The medium ride also ended splitting into 2 groups as I had a puncture on the way to Metcalfe Hill and 2 members stayed with me and assisted while I replaced the tube. All rides were into the wind early but as most of the way was downhill ride speeds were still high. Once at the turn we than had a tail wind for the ride back to Kyneton.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.
