Sunday Club Ride – Gisborne – 22nd March 2020

22 members arrived in Gisborne this morning on a cool start to the morning with a southerly wind blowing. The weather did not warm up during the ride and there was  occasional light rain near the finish of the ride.

14 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 8 rode the long ride. Of the riders on the medium ride 4 rode over Mt Gisborne and rejoined the other 110 in Coungalt Road who rode the published route. 9 riders on the medium ride extended the ride by continuing on to McBean Ave and back.  5 returned to Gisborne at Ferrier Road.

Due to Covid-19 there was a reduced number at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home. It was good to see one of our lady members back riding again after having a hip replacement. After regaining fitness she will hopefully rejoin the regular rides.

Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 19th March 2020

9 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. The weather was cloudy and warm with a strengthening northerly wind blowing.

We all rode our normal 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. We had a head wind for the first half and a tail wind back from Batters Lane.

Once back at the cafe it was refreshments outside with access to the cafe off limits due to Covid 19 restrictions. It was the usual chatter in the warmth before we all headed home.

Sunday Club Ride – Kyneton- 15th March 2020

21 riders assembled in Kyneton this morning. The weather was cold with cloudy skies and a very strong South Easterly wind blowing. 2 other members who were riding from Gisborne were delayed when one of them had a puncture. Due to the delay they missed the ride a rode a modified ride before heading home. We also had 2 first  time riders with us this morning. The first half of the ride was into a cross head wind followed by a cross tail wind for the ride back to Kyneton.

8 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 13 rode a modified version of the long ride. The long ride split into 2 groups with the faster 7 in the first group and the slower 6 following.

Most of the riders were together in the warmth at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Sunday Club Ride – Woodend – 8th March 2020

24 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool and overcast with a Southerly wind blowing. As the ride progressed the wind began to strengthen and the temperature did not warm up much as the cloud cover remained.

2 riders rode a modified short ride, 15 rode the medium ride and the remaining 7 rode the longer ride. All riders rode up Mt Macedon Road to Straws Lane with one rider tackling the climb for the first time. Two riders on the medium ride then rode the descent down Straws Lane for the first time. The wind direction meant a fast first portion of the rides followed by a head wind back to Woodend.

All riders were together at the cafe for the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 5th March 2020

3 foolhardy members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were misty with rain threatening. As it was not raining at the time we commenced the ride.

By the time we reached the end of Boundary Road we had drizzle beginning.  We then decided to modify the ride and rode out to the Carlshrue roadhouse. As we approached the roadhouse the rain began to get heavier and we turned back to Woodend along Cheveley road and Russells Road for a distance of approx 27kms.

Following the ride it was into the warmth of the cafe for refreshments.

Sunday Club Ride – Gisborne – 1st March 2020

21 members arrived in Gisborne this morning on the first day of autumn for today’s ride. Weather conditions were good with cloud keeping the temperature from becoming too hot. The wind began to strengthen as we commenced riding which meant a solid head wind for the first part of the ride.

12 riders commenced on the medium ride and the remaining 9 rode the long ride. 3 riders had ridden from Woodend over the mount and rode back over the South side direct to Woodend.  11 riders completed the medium ride with 7 the long ride. The rides speeds were down due to the head wind early and the amount of climbing on both routes.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments sitting under the shade of the trees before we all headed home.

Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 27th February 2020

9 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. The weather was a cool start to the day with a freshening south westerly wind. The morning warmed up, the sun began to shine as the ride progressed.

We rode our usual 53km ride out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning for the ride back to Woodend at Batters Lane. The ride conditions were similar to the last few months. A mainly tail wind out to Batters Lane followed by a head wind back to Woodend. Average ride speeds were approximately 23kmph or better for all riders.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments enjoying the sunshine before we all headed home.

Sunday Club Ride – Kyneton – 23rd February 2020

26 riders assembled this morning in Kyneton for today’s ride. The weather was warming up by the time we commenced to ride with a light northerly wind blowing. We also had one new member having his first ride with the club plus 2 other first time riders with us.

15 riders rode the long ride, 9 rode the medium ride and 2 rode the short ride as one member was on call. Riders on the medium ride rode to the top of Metcalfe Hill with 3 proceeding down the hill and back up before rejoining the other 6. With the north wind the ride was head wind for the first half followed by a mainly tail wind for the way back. Part of the ride back the wind was a cross tail wind however ride speeds were fast.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we headed home. A large portion of the riders on the long ride had ridden from Woodend and went back direct without the cafe stop in Kyneton.

Sunday Club Ride – Woodend – 16th February 2020

19 members arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride with inclement weather at the start. The morning was cloudy with light drizzle and a strong southerly wind blowing. Not ideal conditions for a ride. One member (Names will not be mentioned) decided not to ride and the remaining 18 started riding. We had a tail wind for the early part of the ride then a head wind for the middle section and a cross wind for the ride back to Woodend along Ashbourne Road.

All riders commenced riding the medium ride as most of the riders present who would normally ride the longer ride decided not to due to the weather. By the time we had reached Anderson Road the weather began to clear and from then on we had a good ride with intermittent patches of sunshine. 2 of the group decided to ride the short ride and the remainder continued on the medium. By the end of Central Road the ride had split into 2 groups of 8 riders each. All rides were ridden at a good pace due to favorable winds for a good part of the ride.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 13th February 2020

8 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were very cool and foggy with a strengthening south east wind blowing as we arrived. Once we were riding by about Newham the skies had begun to clear and from there the morning temperature began to increase.

The ride split into 2 groups with 5 riders riding our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Rd, Chases Lane and turning for the back to Woodend at Batters Lane.

The remaining 3 riders eliminated both the Bryces Lane and Chases Lane loops for a distance of 40kms. Riding conditions were very similar to previous weeks with a tail wind for most of the way out to Batters Lane and a head wind back to Woodend. By the time the ride finished the morning was beginning warm up.

Once back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.
