Thursday Club Ride – Woodend – 24th December 2020

7 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool, overcast with some misty rain early. During the ride the weather cleared after we left Woodend with mainly sunny breaks. It was also good to see 2 of our riders who had issues last Sunday back riding today. The member who had the broken gear cable was back riding with a new cable fitted plus the wounded warrior who had crashed was also back on the bike for the first time since Sunday.

We rode our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, 3 Chain Road, Chases Lane and turning at Batters Lane for the ride back to Woodend. We had mainly wind assistance until we turned at Batters Lane.  We then had a head wind for the ride back to Woodend. The ride was typical of late being reasonably quick early with a slower ride back to Woodend.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before we all headed home.

Sunday Club Ride – Gisborne – 20th December 2020

27 members assembled in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were the best we have had for a Sunday ride for many weeks. Clear skies, Light Breeze and warm temperatures.

6 riders rode the medium ride with the remaining 21 the long ride. The long ride split into 2 groups with 11 in the faster group and 10 in the slower group. There were multiple incidents on the long ride.

The first incident was a member having trouble with his DI2 gears not shifting. Upon resolving the problem he continued the ride.     The second incident near Kerrie Hall with another member having his rear derailleur cable break and could then only ride in the smallest rear cog and struggled climbing the hills.                                          The third incident  on the way back along BFD from Woodend with one  rider having a puncture causing him to slow suddenly and the rider behind crashing into him and having a fall. We called the ambulance and waited with him until they arrived and transfered him to hospital for further tests. A quick update is he has had tests which were all OK. Now waiting on wounds being cleaned and some jabs before hopefully being released today.

Back at the cafe it was the usual chatter and refreshments before heading home  The delayed group was late getting back and decided not to have a cafe stop and proceeded home.

11 riders rode the medium ride and the other 11 rode the longer ride with 2 groups of 7 riders and 4 riders. The medium ride also ended splitting into 2 groups as I had a puncture on the way to Metcalfe Hill and 2 members stayed with me and assisted while I replaced the tube. All rides were into the wind early but as most of the way was downhill ride speeds were still high. Once at the turn we than had a tail wind for the ride back to Kyneton.
