Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 28th October 2018

5 members arrived in Kyneton this morning for today’s ride. A very small number as many members were away riding in another event. Weather conditions were sunny with a cold and strong Southerly wind blowing. The first portion of the ride was directly into the wind until we reached the corner of Anderson Rd and Boundary Road and from there we had a assisting wind for the remainder of the ride.

We rode a modified version of the medium ride by adding in an extra 5km loop to Bryces Lane and back into Newham for a ride of 49km. Even with the sun out it never warmed up and most riders had portions of winter gear on. Arm and leg warmers, long fingered gloves, winter jerseys etc.

Once back at the cafe it was a bit disorganised as 2 riders rode direct to the cafe (Dave) plus 1 and the other 3 to their cars before heading to the cafe. By the time the 3 reached the cafe the other 2 had already departed. it was good to get into the warmth for refreshments and a hot drink before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 25th October 2018

9 members assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cool with the sun shining and a light Northerly breeze. Once we commenced riding those members who had extra layers soon started removing them as it warmed up quickly once into the ride.

5 Members rode our usual 52km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, then 3 Chain Rd, Chases Lane and returning at Batters Lane. The remaining 4 rode a modified version by eliminating the loop into Chases Lane due to time commitments. We had a light head wind at various points out to the end of Chases Lane and a mainly tail wind back to Woodend.

Once  back at the cafe it was the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home.

Sunday Ride – Woodend – 21st October 2018

27 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were a little fresh with some sun shining through and a light South wind blowing. We had 3 first time riders with the group who were either friends or partners of existing members.

19 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 8 rode the longer ride. Once on the ride and past the climbing section out to the end of Ashbourne Road and toward Trentham  for the longer ride, both rides then had a tail wind for the next portion of the ride. With the tail wind the ride pace was reasonably fast together with a mainly downhill section until rides began to head back to Woodend. With the wind being light a solid pace was also held on the way back to Woodend. As the ride progressed we had more sunshine especially once we were out of the trees.

Most riders were together at the cafe for the usual refreshments and chatter before we all headed home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 18th October 2018

6 members (The usual suspects) arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride.  Weather conditions were overcast with low misty cloud and the threat of rain. All riders had driven to Woodend from clear skies and sunshine at their homes. Once we rode from Woodend the skies began to lift and we had some short sections of sunshine between Newham and Kyneton.

We rode our usual 53km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, Chases Lane to Batters Lane and return. As we approached Batters Lane we began to ride into some low misty cloud. By the time we arrived back at Woodend we had ridden into some light rain. Fortunately it was not cold and as all riders were wearing rain jackets we were dry when we got back to the cars.

It was then into the cafe for the usual warmth and refreshments, chatter before heading home.

Sunday Ride – Gisborne – 14th October 2018

35 riders assembled in Gisborne this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were windy and warm and most riders had dispensed with winter gear for the ride. Wind direction was a strong north easterly but we were protected by the trees mainly when riding into the wind. We also had many members who had not ridden much over the colder months back with us, plus friends of members joining us for the first time.

28 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 7 rode the longer ride. The medium ride split into 2 groups from the top of Governors Road. Some of the riders on the medium ride opted not to climb both Waterfalls Road and Governors Road and rode direct to Baringo where they waited for the other riders to descend Mt Macedon Road. Once heading back from Baringo it was with a good tail wind all the way back to Gisborne.

Back at the cafe  all riders were present for the usual refreshments  and chatter before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 11th October 2018

7 riders assembled in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were ideal for riding with the sun shining and a light North Easterly Wind blowing.

We rode our usual 52km loop out to Newham via Bryces Lane, then 3 Chain Rd, Chases Lane and turning back at Batters Lane to Woodend. One rider cut the ride short as he had not ridden for some time. We all enjoyed the ride especially the lack of wind which was unusual lately as windy days have been more normal.

Once back at the cafe it was sitting outside in the sun and having the normal chatter and refreshments before heading home.

Sunday Ride – Kyneton – 7th October 2018

18 riders assembled in Kyneton this morning for the first ride of  the start to daylight savings. Weather conditions were ideal with the sun shining and a light north easterly breeze blowing. It was nice to be able to ride without all the winter clothing on for a change. Getting to hot was the issue instead of being too cold. It was also great to see one of our riders who had not ridden for some time back with us on his new E bike. Well done.

7 riders rode the medium ride and the remaining 11 rode the longer ride. Riders on the long ride split into 2 groups with the faster 4 riders in one group and 7 riders in the second group. Conditions on both rides were a light head wind out to the turning point back to Kyneton followed by a tail wind back.

Once back in Kyneton it was into the cafe for the usual refreshments and chatter before heading home.

Thursday Ride – Woodend – 4th October 2018

5 riders arrived in Woodend this morning for today’s ride. Weather conditions were cold, sunny with a very strong South Easterly wind blowing. 2 riders elected not to ride because of the strong wind. The other 3 went on their merry way.

We rode a 43km modified version of our normal Thursday ride and climbed Mt Macedon Road to Straws Lane out of the wind. Then down Straws Lane, Bryces Lane, Newham and out to Carlshrue and then back to Woodend. The first portion of the ride up the mount and out to Carlshrue was either protected from the wind or a tail wind, cross tail wind. Once we turned at Carlshrue to head back to Woodend it was straight into the wind all the way back. Not fun.

As we had been in the wind for all of the ride it was inside at the cafe out of the wind for refreshments and a chat before heading home.
